What is a strategic intent?
In broad terms, Boisot (as cited in Davies 2002) describes it is a process for coping with turbulence, through a direct, intuitive understanding, emanating from the top and guiding an organisations directions and efforts. Davies (2002) goes on to explain that in simple terms, it is a general idea of the direction you want to take, without knowledge of the EXACT way to get there.
A strategic intent will therefore allow leaders to incorporate a general vision for their learning institute in the 3-5 year period without detailed knowledge of exactly how they are going to achieve their goals. The planning that goes alongside a planned intent will unfold as time progresses.
