Sir John Jones Braes

Marcus shared a video with us at staff meeting this week that was certainly food for thought for educators in the 21Century! What resonated with me was when he talked about what we teach being "googleable"! If what we ask of students is able to be answered simply by typing in a search on Google, then we are doing them an injustice! The other concept (not a new one) I was reminded of was that teachers need to instill a LOVE of learning. If children learn to love what we are offering them, then they will surely become more connected to their learning.

The challenge for me on reflection, is to try not to always ask questions that I already know the answer to! What is the point of that!! This idea has led me to consider that we as educators are now more than ever, obliged to develop in students a lens through which their learning can occur. Develop in them the love of learning and seeking out new understandings, so they will always have the desire to pursue new ideas and learning for themselves!

  1. Hi Myra

Thank for you comment! I just had to post about it. Here's the link http://marcellesjourney.blogspot.co.nz/2013/02/comments-are-powerful.html

My goal is now to filter the power of commenting through our school! :)
